473ml bottle (thx, Alex G.!) at Brian’s office. Pours like an oil with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and hoppy bitterness. Same taste, way too bitter. This one is more a Black IPA, than an Imperial Stout.

Quite dark, with a thick brown head. On the nose this has a vague coffeeish note, with a lot of nuttiness, mellow chocolate, and a lot of woody hop. There’s a ton of hop on the palate, lots of bitterness, and there’s a lot of character. If you like Black IPAs, I think this is the stout for you, because it’s an Imperial Black IPA. That’s my kind of beer, I can’t lie.

16oz can at ratebeer bottle share. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts some pit fruit and chocolate sweetness. Taste is more of the nice roast and chocolate.

Poured from can dark black with a thick rich coca head. Aromas of toasted grain bread chocolate and hops. Taste is burnt citrus malt chocolate with a luscious mouth feel. Interesting beer.

Treated as an imperial stout, this was poured into a snifter. The appearance, well it poured like motor oil and even had the \"glub glub\" sort of sound as it came out. Super nice semi-quick foamy tan head. Dissipated at a nice pace.
The aroma starts off with a big piney hoppiness. Some roasted cocoa and coffee beans make a sly presence but then end up open up a little further as it warms.
The flavor leads with some bitter sticky hoppiness up front. Delicate roasty coffee and cocoa beans enter slightly. Sticky piney hoppy aftertaste with the same sort of finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sipping to Semi-sessionable sort of quality about it. Mild carbonation was felt. Acceptable stickiness.
Overall, it seems to be more of a black IPA than an imperial stout. And an imperialists one at that. I like it as a black IPA, so it’s going to take a \"hit\" in this section. Now that I know what it, I could have it again. But imperial stout fans are probably going to be disappointed as there’s too many hops for the style.

Can, picked up at the brewery in Stowe. 8.0%. Very dark, chocolate brown. Foamy, dark tan head, that settles to a thin, messy, lasting affair. Slow moving and viscous. Nose has tarry, dark chocolate. Some liquorice. Woody, ashy malts. Blackcurrant and sweet grapefruit. Treacle and bonfire toffee. The full works in this one. Taste is burnt sugar, woody, earthy bitter. Some sweetness stays on the lips. Medium to full body. Gets heavy on the hop bitterness as it goes along. Ends long, resinous, and woody. Imperial BIPA?

Tasting at Mr Smith’s Skyflat. Thanks to our host. Opaque dark brown - black beer, good size tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Fluffy dry dark malts, mildly spicy licorice. Dry and bitterish dark chocolate. Little dark fruits, almost bourbon like. Dry roasty finish. Dry but decent.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s place. 7/1/2015. Many thanks to Leighton for this one. Dark pitch black coloured pour with a fading tan head. Aroma earthy roast, tart berry, dark fruit, salty. Flavour is composed of salty, smooth black roast, salty, dried fruit, grainy. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, moderate carbonation . Bitter choc, dark choc. Very good.

Can big thanks to Leightonian. It pours jet black with a thick dark tan head. The nose is rich, fresh pine, sherbet, sweet roasted malt, rocky road, burnt toffee and coffee. The taste is rather slick, smoke, creamy, roasted malt, dark fruits, plum, Dandelion & Burdock, toast and some light alcohol warmth. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Slick and very well-rounded. Drinks way easier than I expected.
