When you think about classic hot winter drinks what comes to mind? For us, Hot Chocolate takes the cake, and what better way to adult-ify a nostalgic treat than by turning it into a beer of course. We started with a hardy stout recipe and leveled up the malt bill to include a few select specialty malts which added multiple layers of chocolate decadence. We also added considerable amounts of vanilla and lactose, heaps of marshmallows, and stirred in a few spoonfuls of chocolate flavouring to bring things all together. If there's one way to go.....it's Death By Chocolate.

473ml can. Pours an opaque dark brown, almost black with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves thick, soapy curtains of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla and light coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, lactose, rye, milk chocolate, vanilla, earth, oats and faint marshmallow in a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and average carbonation. Was expecting more, but still ok.

Can from the brewery
Dark brown colour, near black. Chocolate aroma. Good body, it's not too dry; evident chocolate flavour, a bit artificial, chocolate sauce, and late roastiness.
Decent.

16oz @ home shared with Alex. Appearance: brown with a tan head. Aroma: roasted malts and cocoa, some grassy notes. It reminded me of Str8 cause of that grassy character. Taste: along the same lines, finishes with some cocoa nibs earthiness and grassy bitterness. Overall: ok.

473mL can, pours black with a medium light brown head. Nose is full of marshmallow, lactose and liquid milk chocolate. Flavour is sweet and chocolatey, with lactose, dusty cocoa, and liquid milk chocolate. Chocolatey and dessert-like without being too cloying. Not a complex beer but it's pretty tasty.

Poured from 473mL can. Dark brown with tan head. Lactose and chocolate forward with some vanilla and roast. Decent at its ABV, but far from a standout.

Dark brown, thin head. There's chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Moderate bitterness, medium roast, and then there's a bit of sweetness into the finish. The adjuncts are muted, just light vanilla and I'm not necessarily getting the marshmallows. As a stout, it's not bad, has enough sugars to carry more adjuncts, and could even stand a little more hop because it's not especially dessert.
