The ruby jewel of forest fruit demanded five weeks of frigid cold before bursting forth in summer sun. Brewmaster Dan’s Black Currant Ale originates with American barley and wheat to anchor his exuberant addition of luscious Black Currant. The taste explosion of the acidic tart currant berries is reminiscent of seeded black grapes and raspberries. Heady fruit notes of Cascade hops couple with the earthy traditions of Spalt hops. Expect to pour a deeply dark and intense brew. Your tasting experience will be enhanced when Black Currant 22 is served cold.

Bottle thanks to Drake! Dark magenta, looks like some haze, magenta head. Smells very jammy! Black currant all over, green leaf. Lightly tart currant, green leaf, hints of sweetness, but this is definitely tart. Fruity as hell, very nice.

Aromas are kind of a black currant marmalade and somewhat muted. Flavors are like nose, with an easy tartness balanced with just enough fruity sweet. Good body and carbonation. Finish follows flavors. Good but not great.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s Appleton, 9/17/22. Yay! I love currants and I love New Glarus! Match made in heaven. Very dark purple-red, large pink head, good retention. Aroma of currant, bubblegum, yeast. Almost smells like a hefe. Taste is jammy currants, grape, cherry. Slick, full bodied, mild tartness. Nice.

Dark purple color. purple foam. lots of berry flavor, sugar, sweet malt and a hint of yeast.Not sour, which I thought it could be.

A really cool addition to the NG fruit beers. Deep purple red body. Not as sticky sweet as most beers this color or flavor. Really pleasant mellow currant aronia flavor, faint delicate hints of grape jam. Delicious and super mellow on the palate.
