Super deep copper and bronze coloured, hazy body with a fairly muddied look and a super-thin, very large-bubbled off-white head that fades as fast as soda - odd! Bright aroma of passionfruit front and centre with a lot of tart hibiscus notes too in the nose along with honey, lactose, a little bit of malts and a smidgen of hops in the aroma as well, but very mild. Medium-bodied; Very rich lactosey notes that show stronger than any malt body, but a very sweet, slightly resinous, but very syrupy bite from all the extra sugars here, with the slightly dry but tart passionfruit and guava notes dominate, especially at the end, but some papaya (and extra lactose) add to the body here. Aftertaste is dry, but very tropically and only showing a little bit of malt and a small hoppiness do show, but this is about the fruits, much more so than bitterness. Overall, a very interesting one that has a great haze, but ugly head, very nice fruitiness, but not much hops, a lot of sweetness, but not much malt - the passionfruit dominates throughout (which is great for me, as my favourite fruit), but doesn't execute greatly as an Imperial IPA - this is more of a fruit beer (imperial status) than anything else, but still nice to try from North Carolina! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Cary, North Carolina (Crossroads Boulevard) on 30-May-2021 for US$5,29, canned on 15-April-2021 with the tagline 'drink local' and sampled at my house here in Washington on 25-July-2021.

Not bad. Lots of citrus me and Lee grapefruit balanced with a significant amount of caramel malt. Not exactly balanced but pretty drinkable.
