Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

Bottle @ home. Dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Roasty, toffee, dark chocolate, lightly nutty, creamy nose. Nutty, toffee, brown malty, light licorice, earthy hoppy flavor. Pretty smooth, tasty beer.

Imported from my RateBeer account as Flying Dog Road Dog Porter (by Flying Dog Brewery):
Aroma: 8/10, Appearance: 5/5, Taste: 5/10, Palate: 2/5, Overall: 10/20, MyTotalScore: 3/5
28/08/2011 12Fl. Oz. bottle @ home - BB: 30/3/11 (2011-413)
Note: if the rating would be dishonest towards the beer, due to the beer having expired, I'm sorry for the brewer. I only bought the bottle 2 weeks ago from "De Molen" and didn't notice it being expired until I came home.
Fizzy light beige head, stable and a little adhesive. Clear deep red purple to dark ruby beer. Aroma: sweet cherries upon pouring, disinfectant alcohol, sweet dried fruits, alcohol, raisins, orange peel, bit of port, some vanilla tones. MF: way to much carbon, light to medium body. Taste: quite the sour start, surprisingly, then coffee bitter, fruitiness like red berries, some caramel and mocha. Aftertaste: bitter hops, pretty watery, coffee, some citrus. Doesn't last very long, except for the very bitter hop dryness.

The phrase "reminiscent of a porter" sounds quite suspect. There’s some buttery English funk on the start of this brew, only to be followed up by, well, buttery English funk of a darker character. The finish is bubbly and flavorless, making me question why such a weak Porter has perhaps one of the best labels out there. (10/08)
