Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

.355L bottle, small stable off white colour with little lacing, very dark red colour with lots of brown and copper streaks, aroma of sour bread, tobbaco and hay with some peated malt and hints of citrusy hops in the back, flavour of sour bread and caramel, some hay and light roasted coffee, with a pleasant bitter backbone. Not really a porter but just a damn excellent dark ale.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear dark brown color with a big beige head. Aroma of fruits, some roasted malt, some graininess, a bit of hops and coffee and nutty notes. Sweetish flavor with malt, light roastiness, a bit of chocolate hints, some caramel, acidic touches and a drier, mildly bitter finish with a bit more roastiness and some hops. Medium-bodied (feels too light). Not very Porter-like, but OK. 6/4/6/3/12=3.1

It doesn’t look like a Porter. Not that dark and no head retention to talk of. The nose has earthy and nutty notes with a green vegetable note (presumably from hops). Earthy taste but with a massive liqourice note comes in at the top of the mouth and the finish is full of hazelnuts and it is a little harsh. Nice beer but lots of others out there that may be more balanced.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black with amber notes and a thin tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, bitter chocolate and coffee. The flavor is heavily malted and bitter. The palate is creamy and a little acidic. Overall, a fair porter.

Originally rated September 2004. This was my first Flying Dog experience. And it was a good one (despite the bad reviews this beer gets). Very good looking label. Poured a medium brown colour with ruby highlights. The moderate head dissipated fairly quickly. Could smell molasses and fruits with hints of hickory. Tasted smoked toffee with sweet and roasted malts. Hints of chocolate. I really enjoyed its smoked aftertaste.

clear dark red-brown, smooth offwhite head. aroma of dry dark caramel, malts, red berries, faint wood, dark fruits. complex but weird aroma. flavor is roasted malts, licorice and spicy note, woody bitter note, pretty mild, also quite a special flavor, i don’t remember anything quite like it. Some flowery hoppy notes. hoppy slightly spicy porter?. Wil probably taste better and better as You get used to it. ends woody and bitterhoppy bitter with a note of roasted malts. If they made an imperial version of this one it could become pretty awesome.

Medium offwhite head. Deep red body with translucent body. Deep malty raisiny earthy aroma, very harmonic and vivid. Dry intensely earthy taste with chocolatey malty notes. Mid-bodied. Dusty, mild mouthfeel. Dry earthy peppery aftertaste with dusty chocolate notes. Mild, quite drinkable, nice. (0.355l bottle, ?, CPH.)
