Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

(Bottle, Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee and slightly spicy hops. Malty, slightly roasted taste with chocolate, cocoa, caramel and a slightly bittersweet finish with a hint of brownies and just a touch of orange. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Nice and well balanced beer somewhere between a porter and scottish ale.

Bottle, 13C. Pours dark brown with a tan head that fades rapidly to a coat. Smells of roast malts, mocha and stewed fruits. Tastes delicately sweet with fruit and roast notes. It’s smooth and light - just escapes being watery. Long if mild finish of fruit, chocolate, salt and restrained hop dryness. A nice, easy-going drop from down near the porter/ brown ale border.

12 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri as part of a mix a six. Pour is a clear brown amber ruby with a nice two inch tan head that filled out the tulip very nicely. Head falls slowly with sheets of lace. Aroma is faint, some dry woody malt along with a hint of straw and peat. Also a very slight hint of apple sweetness. Subtle nose. Taste is much bigger than expected after the faint nose; immediate roast malt, followed by an earthy straw element that somewhat mimics the peat of the nose, but it lacks the sharpness of peat. The mild sweetness is present, though certainly behind and below the roast. Mid palate, the earthy nature takes over and follows through the finish to a long extended flinty aftertaste. Palate is medium bodied with above average carbonation. The active carbonation works with the earthy nature to create a very dry beer. This dryness is clean, though, and leads to a very drinkable beer. Nice one.

Bottle. A clear, copper to brown beer with a finger-thick dense, beige head on top. Roasted nose with caramel and some hints of peat. A whiff of coffee grit too. The flavor has a lot of coffee, roasted malts and caramel, with some peaty notes to give it a more thourough Scottish touch. Smooth and dry in the mouth, finishing roasted and with caramel sweetness. I think it’s too focused on the dry, coffee-like flavors, but it’s sure a decent beer I wouldn’t shy away from having again. 091023

Bottle: Deep chestnut-amber coloured, clear with a small foamy layer; moderate dryish roast-malty and caramelly nose with present vinous/fruity touch; light to medium bodied, solid bitter-sweet flavour; rather short caramelly-roasty finish with a quite little bitterness in the aftertaste. O.K., but a bit disappointing.......
