Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

35,5 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 28.08.2009
Aroma is somewhat roasted with toffee and licorice. Flavour has roasted notes, some toffee, licorice and hints of coffee. Quite thin palate. Does not work, just too straightforward and thin.

That ’NO CENSORSHIP’ makes me smile as the Gonzo porter was blocked from Alko due to the cigarette in the label.

355ml. Brown colour with an avergae beige head, with medium duration. Aroma is toasty, some citrus and smoky notes. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, slightly ctrus notes, ashes traces. The final is medium dry with a mild bitterness with good duration. Carbonation and body are medium.

Poured dark reddish brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma was weak but there were malty hints. The flavour is medium bitter with liqourice and some yeasty notes on the palate. This isn’t a real porter in my opinion. It lacks that chewy malt in the flavour. It’s rather drinkable and quite refreshing, but nothing special.

Smells a little like malted barley. Pours dark brown with a little creamy head. Some lacing. Taste has virtually nothing to it. A little nutty bitterness. A little sourness. Boring. Bottle.

Some roasted malts come through with a nice burnt, bitter finish. Body is a bit thin though.

Aroma: A little bit of caramel and molasses with very slight notes of cereal. Aromas are not sticking out a lot. Appearance: Dark brown or is it between brown and black? Kind of translucent and clear for a porter. Creamy average head, with good lacing. Taste: Smoke is sticking out a lot. And yet it’s not a smoke porter. Sub notes of coffee, black chocolate and vanilla. But smoke is sticking out too much. Body is very light and thin, texture is very watery, which is not common for a porter. Not the typical porter you’d expect. Too thin and too smoky.

12 oz bottle. Pouirs clear brown with a light tan head. Roasty aroma, slightly peppery, molasses. Lightly roasty coffee, molasses, caramel flavors. A medium-bodied beer with decent flavors.

Bottle. Light chocolate and molasses aroma. Clear deep chestnut with a small tan head. Light roasted malt flavor. Thin watery body. Definitely doesn’t taste like a porter, more like a schwarzbier.

Bottle@ The Cluny, Newcastle. Reddish brown pour with a thin off white head. A little chocolate in the nose. Flavour wise, traces of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit and some vague bitterness towards the finish. Nothing really standing out though. Pretty thin and uninspiring. Not the greatest offering from Flying Dog. Boo.

Clear dark brown beer, sort of cola colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, quite light, light caramel, light fruity tones. Flavour light sweet, quite thin for a porter. Finish roasted malts, slight tart notes, some berries. Not bad, but rather thin and just not that impressive. Certainly not worth the 5 Euro asked for it.
