Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

Bottle. Taste is toasty, yet kind of watery. Aroma, light burnt grains, malt. Nice color. Slight head and no lace. Better then average but not great.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Roasted malt and onion (!) in the aroma. Roasted malt, caramel and laurel in the flavor. Fairly thin. Nice roastbitter and coffee aftertaste. Somehow this beer grows on you.

Backlog rating. Multiple bottles from Old Town. Pours a deep brown with a finger of tan head that dissipates quickly. Dark baker's chocolate aromas with some light prune and roasted malt aromas. Chalky dark chocolate, lightly sour prune and more roasted malt. Body is think and easy drinking, but the flavors don't come together as good as most do for the style. Lingering roast on the finish.

Bottle split at LKS, thanks to Bropey, 03/08/15. Murky chestnut brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is soy sauce, bloody Mary, umame, dark fruit, touch of oxidisation. Taste comprises fruit loaf, light spice, earthy, toffee, malt, sweet. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Doing ok for a ’98 vintage.

Aroma is fairly nice Salted caramel, toffee, soy, caramel, nutty. Flavour is composed of caramel, light toffee, Salted caramel, Good for the age. Palate is sweet, tangy, lowish carbonation, medium bodied. Powdered choc and fruit cake lingers.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Best before Feb 1998! Pours clear russet-brown with a big, foamy khaki head. A bit of oxidation apparent in the nose, cherry, brown bread. Medium sweet flavor with dried berries, raisins, bread, some brown sugar, dates. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary finish, more dried, old berries, toasted sugars, bread. Pretty damn good given the age.

Bottle BBF Feb 1998!!! It pours dark brown with a decent off-white head. The nose is rich, earthy, marmite, oxidised action, fruit cake, wood, toasty, brown sugar and must. The taste is pretty sweet upfront, caramelised sugars, aged malts, fruit cake, candy, marmite, damp wood and cola with a short, sweetish finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Yes it’s aged, but not at all bad for it. Like Kenny, we’ll sort of.
