Rotbiere waren früher in Franken häufiger anzutreffen.

W aromacie wędzonka, dym z ogniska, lekki karmel.

W smaku słodowe, karmelowe, sporo nut dymnych, wędzonych, lekkie owoce. Kontra chmielowa niewielka.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear copper colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is smoky. The flavour is moderate bitter with a dry, somewhat rich, smoky palate. A simple but well made beer.

From that big beer shop in Vienna.
Drunk at home.
50 cl bottle.
Off white small head. Medium lasting.
Amber colour.
Aroma is smoked salmon and caramel.
Starts sweet with malt, dried fruits and caramel.
Finishes with some bitterness and pronounced smoke notes. Maybe a bit of prune and dates.
Medium body.
Another splendid beer from Schlenkerla.

Fruity, smooth, slightly sweet, and, of course, smoky, but again, superbly balanced.

Pint can pours with a clear dark ruby red to mahogany colored body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up inviting smooth bacon and smoked port butt like smokiness as well as some chocolate malts and a bit of crystal like malts in the background. The taste delivers modest smokiness bound tightly to sweet crystal malts and thin plum like sweet fruity esters. Toward the finish it picks up a hint of mineral notes as well as echoes of chocolate malts. I dig a rauch bier but would prefer even greater smoky goodness. Solid stuff.

Bottle at home. Copperish pour with an off-white head. The aroma definitely seems less intense smoke-wise, even though as it warms it opens up more, but the usual bacon and cheese vibes are for sure more muted than what I’d expected. The taste follows in sinilar fashion, it’s malty upfront, bready, with the smoke staying in the background mainly, showing more in the finish. Whats also unusual is the body, it’s on the lighter side, and even for a sub-5% beer, subsequently the bitterness and dryness feel bigger. Not bad (plus I’m addmitedly biased towards Schlenkerla), but not my favourite from their offerings for sure.
