Rotbiere waren früher in Franken häufiger anzutreffen. Vor allem die Stadt Nürnberg war bekannt für ihr Rotbier. Da seine Herstellung extrem aufwändig war, wurde das Rotbier im 19. Jahrhundert durch das mit modernen, einfacheren Brauverfahren hergestellten Braunbier verdrängt und verschwand. Erst 1997 wurde der Bierstil wiederbelebt.
Für unser Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel Rotbier trocknen wir das Malz über einem Feuer mit hochwertigem Kirschholz und nicht wie beim klassischen Rauchbier über Buchenholzfeuer. Im Gegensatz zum würzigen Buchenrauchmalz hat das Kirschrauchmalz ein fruchtiges, fast süßliches Raucharoma und sorgt für eine kupferrote Farbe im Glas. Feinster Aromahopfen ergänzt den vielschichtigen Rauchgeschmack um eine beerige Note. Mit 4,6% Alkohol ist Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel ein vollmundiges, angenehm süffiges Bier.

Tap at the brehwouse in Bamberg. Lovely smoked aroma with apple wood flavours. Deep mahogany colour, yet rather flat. Almost vanilla on the taste. otherwise as you'd expect.

Bottle @Beershoppe (Rome). Rossa intensa/miele di castagno, schiuma avorio media. Al naso note affumicata notevole, con sentori di malto, caramello, legno. In bocca è abboccata all'attacco con chiusura affumicata potente, leggero amaro a bilanciare. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Spettacolare anche questa, seppur non tra le mie preferite del birrificio.

Clear red amber to gold red beer, big creamy beige head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nice, good smoky character, slightly fruity, raisins. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice, pretty bitter, good smoke, dried fruits, a bit malty, more fruity, hoppy. Aftertaste: very smoky, malty, soft roast, some cocoa, good bitterness, nice!

Clear red-amber pour with a lasting white head. Aromas of smoke, cherries, bacon. Taste is smoke, whisk(e)y, white bread, cherries, herbs, a hint of marmelade. Slightly bitter and smkoy aftertaste. Something different, but in a good way and full of flavours given the low(ish) ABV.

Bottle from Lonestar Bev. Kept in my desk at work but it escaped & found it's way to my hotel room a couple gigs ago. Chug & rate before checkout at the hotel. Clear, amber pour with an off-white head. Sweet & pungent, savory beef fat smoke. Mellow malt, bittersweet, tasty creamed corn, bitter herbs, minerally, thin with a pithy finish. Lighthearted smoke lingering on the tail. Way less than expected. Good but not as good as the helles or marzen.

Bottle 50cl. @home pored into a glass tankard. Clear amberbrown colour, good frothy off-white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma roasted malt, smoke, bacon, burnt wood, Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, smokey, light caramel, spicy notes. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, smoky and earthy notes, good.

On tap at beergeek pours out amber topped with a sand head. Nose is nice smoked malts some great meat notes. Taste is more of the nice rich roast malts great smoke meat kick. This is great.

50 cl bottle @ Hervanta, BBE 06/2024 Aroma has smoky tones, tar, sweetish tones. Flavour has smoky tones, some tar, sweet fruitiness and some berry juice tones. Good and easy to drink.

Pyszka, wedzone z zaznaczona frankofonska goryczka, rubinowa miedziana barwa, ze spora piana, bardzo trwala, ktora moze nie stoi az 24min czyli tyle czasu ile by potrzebowal czasu Zelenski by Trumpowi wytlumaczyc o co kaman w tej nierównej wojnie. Nic o was bez WAS. Paring with smoked Grawiera ship hard cheese from Crete.

Bottle from Asao in Kyoto. Been dying to try this. Rich caramel and bready malt, cherry smoke, ham, lightly herbal. Deep red-orange-amber with a tall, fine, frothy head. lighter than expected, only mildly sweet, slightly nutty, light caramel, dry smoke, earthy, grassy. There is a solid hint of cherry as well. A bit surprising. Very dry and mildly bitter too. Smoke is medium compared to their Marzen. More hoppy. Dig it.
