Black Lager

Clear dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Somewhat dry and light bitter finish. Good schwarzbier. 140310

0.355l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours a dark brown body with a thin beige head. Nose is strong caramel and weak hops along with some roasted malts. Decent carbonation and medium bodied. Good roasted/burned caramel flavor, hints of bread and a nice maltiness with a decent amount of hops to back it up. Not to unique, but a refreshing, slightly sweet and nice thirst-killer.

355 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.9%. Not entirely black colour, rather very dark brown. Thick beige head. Moderate but nice aroma of dark bread, roasted malts and herbal German hops. The flavour is moderately roasty with just a modest sweetness, could be called medium dry. A slight acidity in the finish, more bittering hops would be desirable. Decent enough to drink, but not very exciting.

Not quite opaque black beer with a thin tan head. Smooth but with a carbonated crisp bite. Dark malt with a slightly sweet note and a just a light touch of toasty malt at the finish. A sessionable dark lager!

Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de SlovakSniper. De couleur brune-noire et opaque. Nez de grains de malt rôtis, de chocolat noir, moyen de pain grillé avec des traces de caramel brûlée, de café et de noix. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas et une texture crémeuse. Léger goût de crême brûlée avec des petites traces de chocolat au lait (faibles traces lactiques) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de grains de malt rôtis et de chocolat noir avec un moyen-léger goût de caramel sucré et un léger goût de pain grillé puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux ainsi que des petites notes de café et de noix rôties. Post-goût moyen, moyen-léger amer de rôti, de chocolat avec des notes de houblon, de brûlé ainsi que des traces de noix.

12 oz. bottle/ Pored into a mug. Pours black with no head to speak about. However the tiny head that was there did leave a bit of lacing. Has coffee, chocolate, and malt aromas with some mild hops in the background. Tastes is dominated by roasted malty with a mild sweetness, bitter sweet chocolate, and coffee. It has some odd charred flavors as it warms but its is easy drinking. Not overly complex and mouth feel is not exceptional but I think its really underrated as a beer - definitely worth getting again. It reminds me of a porter or stout.

12 oz. bottle (thanks Robert). Pours dark black, but not quite opaque, with a slight tinge of red. Very little head and no lacing. Smells of licorice, roasted coffee, and yeast. The flavor is mostly coffee-like bitterness with a little malty sweetness backing it up. The mouthfeel is smooth and light, with just a little alcohol burn. Not bad.

Purchased in Nashville on my trip to Tennessee in a 6-pack sampler. Cola-looking with a big frothy beige head and lots of lacing. Smells yeasty and malty like their Coastal Wheat brew with notes of chocolate malt, nuts and mild dark fruits. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. The taste has some dark and caramel malts with a touch of nuts and a light bitter finish. A nice easy-drinking Schwarzbier.

Dark brown, small beige head. Light roasted malt aroma with touches of cocoa, earth and grass. Tastes cola sweet with some chocolate and prunes. A little bitterness at the end registers as mainly drying up the modest sweetness. Solid, but not terribly interesting.
