This beautifully crafted porter brings together a blend of locally sourced Scottish blackcurrant and Madagascan vanilla pods which combine to soften the bitter edges of the dark malts and bring a subtle touch of sweetness.

Pours near black with a small light tan head. Roast malt and coffee aroma. Flavor is of roast malt, mild coffee, a hint of currants as it warms. Vanilla? Maybe. It’s light. Light to medium body. Alright though I prefer something more robust in a porter.

Bottle from Misty Bottle. It pours opaque black with a dark tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, burnt toast, touch of blackcurrant jam, mellow vanilla, umami, liquorice allsorts and some ash. The taste is dry, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, blackcurrant jam, slightly charred, umami, liquorice allsorts, cacao nibs, dark chocolate and muted vanilla with a dry roasted finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. All comes together well. Adjuncts are not artificial feeling or overbearing.

Black, with thin head. Up front there's a nice mix of sweet vanilla and tart blackcurrants. The blackcurrants are prominent. Roasted malt bitterness comes through nicely in the finish.

Tight tan head stayed on a still black body. Malt, liquorice & berry aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & creamy thinning out to a sticky back. Blackcurrant, malts, liquorice & vanilla tastes with a fruity jam like finish. Very interesting - good one.

Bottle thanks to Peeps. Appearance - black body with beige to tan head. Nose - blackcurrant, light liquorice and just a hint of smoke. Taste - light smoke and liquorice again. Mainly berry fruit, molasses and a touch of the vanilla. Palate - medium bodied, silky middle and a roasty finish. Overall - very nice indeed.
