The old school IPA in this Biolithic series by Belgo Sapiens, longneck bottle from an organic shop in Ghent. Busily cobweb-lacing, creamy off-white, thick, bit irregular yet stable, slowly breaking head, misty warm orange blonde with amberish tinge. Aroma of pink grapefruit, soggy biscuit, rusk, dried dandelions, spruce tips, dirt or damp earth somewhere, moist chicken spices, hints of unripe peach, wormwood, bitter garden weeds, old paprika and turmeric powder, volatile touch of watermelon, vague clove. Cleanly fruity onset, tamarillo, unripe peach and persimmon aspects, sweetish but not too much, yet some residual sugars do manage to spread out a modest layer of sweetness over a slick, moderately carbonated, notably soft and smooth biscuity malt backbone, with bready and vaguely peanutty edges; some 'Belgian' phenols and other yeast effects appear, adding a certain degree of earthiness, but the hops are certainly there and shine brightly, with retronasal aromas of orange, pink grapefruit, southernwood and even lychee, as well as long, rooty, tonic-watery bitterness, even if the biscuity malt sweetness still pierces through. It has been ages since I had a really good oldskool West Coast IPA and this one almost qualifies; almost, because the Belgian yeast effects are there and should have been avoided completely, but I will not be bothered by this because the malts and hops do feel old-fashioned and taste like almost all IPAs did fifteen-odd years ago - this beer really is, in that sense, a blast from the past. Have an extra point for pulling that off - it sure makes me nostalgic!

33cl can from Sequoia Bio & Natural Market, Jourdan in Brussels. F: medium, egg-white, good retention. C: deep gold, clear. A: malty, orange, bit onion effect, bit caramel, tangerine, mellow tropical fruits. T: medium to full malty base, orange, grapefruits, caramel touch, bit roasted onion, tropical fruits, soft carbonation, long lasting harmonic bitterness, very good for the style, enjoyed for sure.
