Saddle up, Cowboys. There’s a new barley wine in town. This full-bodied outlaw of a drink combines a rich toffee caramel biscuit base with layers of tropical mango, citrus and spice for a warming finish. And galloping in at 9.5%, it’s not one for yellow bellies. Guaranteed to get your boots tapping and your knees slapping, let’s get this hoedown started.

Can from the Brewery online shop. Pours clear amber with a thick off-white head. Aromas of stone fruit, apricot, resin, bit boozy. Taste is spicy marmalade and toffee. Hint of varnish. Solid barley wine.

Has that typical US BW grainy character, however this is very smooth, and not as bitter as the US versions

Last in the queue, another disappointment. Too smooth, no kick

Crowler from Dogtap, Ellon. It pours clear mahogany brown with a thick, handsome whiteish head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, brown bread, toasted brown sugars, ripe stone fruit, tinned peach & apricot, mango, some bubblegum, toffee, hot cross bun, warming spice, wood and resin. The taste is firm dryness upfront, nice snap of bitterness, bitter - sweet, slick, sappy, pine needles, toffee, resin, nice ripe fruitiness, apricot, nectarine, peach, mango, dried fruits, fruit cake, some warming spice, boozey kick, brown bread and fruit loaf with a snap of bitterness through the finish. Fulsome body, moderate carbonation and soft, massaging carbonation. Rounded and flavoursome. Nice semi classique style barley wine. Occasionally BD can make a good beer like they used to.
