Zenne y Frontera variant aged on palo cortado barrels, known as the most ‘complete’ and refined form of sherry in the whole sherry hierarchy; bottle shared at Open Beerdays at Lambik-o-Droom. Snow white, thinnish, dot-like lacing but stable ‘ring’ of foam on a misty amberish-orange blonde robe. Aroma of ground walnuts, indeed lots of typical sherry oxidation, grape skin, something very faintly smoky (smoked paprika!), dry wood, peach kernels, dried apricot, preserved figs, hazelnut oil, ‘saucisson aux noix’ and even a faint whiff of mussel juice somewhere at the back (and this sounds less pleasant than it actually was, I know). Tart onset, lots of sour and wrinkled apple, grape skin, gooseberry, blue plum – a bit astringent even but softening further on, with very soft carbonation (almost flat really); bread-crusty core with lovely nuttiness to it from the sherry effect, grape skin and sour apple persisting, also when this vague smoked paprika note returns, embedded in pronounced sherry oxidation, with drying sherry effects reinforcing it. Very ‘noble’ and aristocratic lambic, more so even than some of the previous Zenne y Frontera iterations although all of them have been ravishing so far; the sherry is very pronounced here, more so than in most other variants I had, and the 3 F crew managed to bring the renowned sophistication of palo cortado sherry to the lambic. Another masterpiece from one of lambic’s most artistically gifted practitioners.

Pours dark amberblonde. Scent is milder than the Amontillado version of this year. A more lambic funk based aroma. Taste is more lambic oriented as well, brett and oak take the lead, intensified raisins, nuts, dry oak, bit of a bitter finish. Oily mouthfeel towards the ending.

0,75l bottle at the Lambic-o-droom. Amber clear color, small white head. smells leathery, lactic, very subtle funk, bit rubbery. Nice but also weird smell. full body, soft carbonation. tastes leathery, rubbery, nutty, bit funky, earthy. finishes lightly dry and lightly sour with notes of rubber, nutty and sherry notes. Bit weird one, not the biggest fan
