On tap. Pours dark brown - close to black - with an orange hue and a delicious and creamy cappuchino head. The nose has plenty of smoke and burned malts. Very rich body, hard roasted malts and some licorice. Very malt bitter finish. A solid Porter - especially for Germany - but a slightly musty edge detracts. 200810

Entered to celebrate my rating number 17,800. Draft. A red-brown beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has strong notes of smoke combined with notes of roasted malt, tar, and rope. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of smoke combined with medium notes of roasted malt and wood, leading to a dry, woody and smokey finish.

50cl bottle @ Brewery. Pours dark amber with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is mild. Butter and only vaguely roasted notes. Flavor is bitter and roasted with notes of caramel, bread and coffee. Hops and bitter roast in the end as well. Medium and smooth palate. Lots of Diacetyl like the other beers from the brewery.

Bottle, 7.5%. Sour cardboard aroma (not past in BB, kept in fridge). Hazy dark brown colour with a red shine. Almost no head. Rather thin mouthfeel. Cardboard flavour with some raw liquorice, especially in the aftertaste. Sweetish, alcoholic aftertaste with some malt bitterness. Too low carbonation. A bit disappointing, hopefully better when fresher.

No head, beautiful red-brown beer. Wood, tar, saddlesoap, pine resin, some dark malts. Again tarry in taste, as Lapsan Souchong tea, bit of dark cherries or prunes, and quite smokey. There’s a buttery, even diacetyl-like dimension, but as with Oerbier, this blends in quite well in such a dark beer. Medium to well bodied. Alcohol is hidden. Very pappery aftertaste/MF. Finally, I got Germany’s most eccentric beer. With the Zoigl, the LCRBM just exploded thanks to Sebastian.

(swing top bottle, 7,5 %ABV, traded with Jevers Zeuge – many thanks !) Hazy, murky brown colour with a small creamy beige layer. Dusty, sweet toffee aroma with chocolate and light roasted elements. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium body, smooth carbonation. Rich toast-malty, minimal roasted taste with toffee and chocolate; medium dry, sweetbitter, slightly acidic finish with a well-integrated, warming alcoholic note and a touch of herbal hops. Likeable stuff.
