This full-bodied imperial stout pours an opaque mahogany color with a tan head. Its smell is dominated by notes of roasted coffee beans, with a slight hint of chocolate, but Simcoe and Fuggles hops add complexity to the aroma. The roasted barley is detectable in the taste, and this complements the bitterness from the Warrior hops - balancing out the sweetness from the load of malts used in brewing Peg Leg. A creamy mouthfeel makes this a smooth, utterly drinkable beer.

Dark with a small, dark head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, and a bit of bourbon. Medium, smooth mouth. Flavor is full of roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, and a bit of dark fruit. Pretty good brew.

Pours strange, almost like coca-cola, with the instant fizziness and same colour. Aroma of roast malt and a little hops. Very underwhelming for style, but it isn’t entirely undrinkable. Just not that great for what it should be. Fizzy, highly carbonated texture with a bit of oiliness. Bottle.

The smell has roasted coffee tones up front with some fig and dates in the background, chocolate is there but very subdued, one really has to pull for both of these even after as the beer warms. It pours a jet black and leaves the same color body. A one centimeter mocha colored head appears and dies immediately. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The taste takes all of those smells to combine a nice sweet roastiness. The palatel is about a medium with some slight harshness on the tongue, nothing bad, but noticeable. It is slightly dry. I would say it is slightly drinkable, probably have one or two in a session. Overall, this is not a bad RIS, but I’ve had better.

5 oz. sample on cask at The Pub in Dayton, pours opaque black with small dark brown highlights and very little off white head. No lacing, thick body, very little carbonation, and burnt aroma. Taste is dry long roasted malt and bitter hop finish.

Bottle. Dark roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, hops aroma. Dark brown with a small tan head. Coffee, chocolate, molasses, anise flavor with a tart and light bitter finish. Medium body, lively carbonation. Rather acidic and light for an imperial stout, more like a porter.

Chevy Chase, DC 12oz ($2.50): Pours a black colour with a small head. Aroma is just roasted malts and molasses. Taste is really sweet. Mouthfeel is really thick and syrupy. Roasted malts shine through. Hops are kept on the down low. Even though Imperial Stouts are not really my style of choice, this one

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a thin bit of dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and some dark fermented fruit. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. Lots of chocolate with a bit of vanilla and coffee. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Soft carbonation and a long bittersweet finish. Overall, very good. Much better than I thought it would be considering it was about a buck fifty for a single bottle.
