Whole Foods, Fairfax 500ml ($3): Pours a dark brown with a quickly dissipating light brown head. Aroma is a bunch of fruit and roasted malt. Beer itself is really sweet, even for a Baltic Porter. It wasn’t exactly cloying, but I can imagine that it would be for some people. There was some complexity in taste, and this was a welcome coming home present for myself after 70 Scandinavian beers.

Strong coffee and maple syrup. Clear garnet black, medium yellow head. Flavor of strong coffee, a bit on the sweet side. Cherries are present as well. There is an unpleasant cane sugar sweetness on the back end.

500 mL bottle from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. Pours a near black color with a large fizzy tan head. Decent head retention. Weird tinny hops in the aroma with nutty and chocolate notes. The taste is sweet malts, chocolate, nutty notes, caramel, coffee, anise and a very faint hop presence. Medium bodied, and a bit too sweet, but solid.

Sampled from bottle at SIB, pours dark reddish brown with a small ring of beige head. Aroma of sweet liqueur, caramel and toasted malts. Flavour of toasted malts, caramel and slight liqueur qualities on the finish. Nice porter.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Tuesday night while making fish tacos for my lovely future wife and a friend. Appearance a very dark brown with thin off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma of licorice, vanilla, chocolate, dark fruits, actually quite complex and interesting. Taste is quintessential Baltic Porter, the caramel malts come out a bit more in the taste, nicely carbonated and man, for a 9.4% ABV this is some smooth stuff. I’m not a big fan of beers that have that licorice / dark fruit complexity but this stuff is pretty good.

Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma is full of intense aromatic roasted malts with a bit of coffee and a hint of earthiness. Flavor was similar starting full of roasted malts with a bit of creamy coffee and just a tad of chocolate. Finish is a bit thin, but solid overall.

bottle from Plaza (25Jan11) First of all, the only reason I bought this was the name, and the 2.75 price tag, I mean it’s a deal price wise for an import, and I can sing, "like a boss" while I drink it, doesn’t get better than that. Pours brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is strong roast and chocolate malts with a cola thing going on as well. Flavor is sweet chocolate and roasted malt, thin smoke and tobacco ending with lingering sweet roast and cocoa notes. Not a bad porter, and at 9.4, entirely too easy to drink.

500ml bottle. Dark brown, almost black body with a beige head. Aroma is liquorices, dry fruit and some chocolate. Flavor is sweet, dry fruit, chocolate, some caramel and moderate bitter. Quite nice, but a bit out of balance between sweetness and lack of bitterness. Well hidden alcohol.

500ml bottle from Brewforia
Appearance: Dark burgundy with virtually no head or lacing
Aroma: Dark fruits, caramel
Taste: Sweet malts, dark fruits & caramel. The finish is grainy and sweet
The alcohol is well hidden. Not bad, but I probably wouldn’t order a second pint if I was at a bar.
