Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 30A: tonka beans / 9C). Can 44 cl - Batch L9S5 180S (BB: 0528). AROMA: initial medium roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate, coffee with a slight sweet background. medium-low esters reminiscent of dried grapes and prunes. faint tonka and faint metallic background. APPEARANCE: deep brown color and opaque with slight ruby highlights. medium-low light brown head, creamy, with ok retention for style. TASTE: initial medium-high roasted malt flavor with notes of roasted coffee that start to overshadow low notes of esters (prunes and dried grapes). very faint to non-existent tonka. medium-high to high bitterness with a dry, roasty and bitter finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium-high body with medium to medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: an overly roasted baltic porter that gets worse as it is drank, numbing the palate and muting all the other notes.

440ml can. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, average, thick, creamy, moderately lastng and lacing, tan head. Roasty, chocolately and slightly nutty, dark malty aroma, hints of dark chocolate, some liquorice, tonka bean, some toffee, dark caramel, a touch of cold coffee. Taste is mildly bitter, roasty and slightly chocolately, dark malty, slightly nutty, hints of dark chocolate and tonka. Creamy texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, very fine, soft, creamy carbonation. Well crafted, well dosed tonka usage, overall a tad cautious and restrained, not overly complex - very nice.
