Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 19/05/24. Pitch black topped with a tan head that veers edgewards. Nose is chocolate, dark malts, molasses, spice, dried fruit rinds, earthy roast. Taste comprises dark malts, hint of coffee, molasses, toasted brown sugars, charr, roasted tones. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. It's okay ... a bit stuck in 3rd gear and not really delivering on the promised espresso for me.

Can. Semi opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly tan head. Fairly smooth palate, a mild viscosity, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a little dark malt cream. Unsurprisingly, very strong coffee but, it's very smooth. As smooth as ... Earthy coffee, strong. Trace of esters. Modest fruity coffee. A tiny Mocha element. Light smooth finish leaves a mildly warm afterglow. And, that is the only clue to the fairly hefty abv. This generally drinks like 8 - 9%. A pleasant and remarkably easy to drink coffee Impy.

On tap at Proeflokaal Arendsnest, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, some dark sugars and a touch of vanilla. Flavour is strange, with a boozy, not-too-high quality coffee character and some dark sugars. Lots of alcohol and coffee on the finish. Rather messy and clumsy. But it's still pretty fun.

Black beer, thin tan head. Big coffee aroma. Flavour has big coffee, toasted malt, a bit of chocolate, boozy warmth. A bit of aniseed. Sweet, rich, warming, loads of coffee. Lovely.

0.33 l can from 'Mr. Hop', best before December 2026. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty, a bit fruity aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted hazelnut and some dark fruits. Quite sweet, malty, fairly roasty and a little fruity taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, roasted hazelnut, licorice, vanilla and some dark fruits, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, gently boozy finish. Full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Super intense beer, but the coffee is perfectly integrated, much more so than in many other examples of the style. Tasty stuff, definitely one of the best Imperial Coffee Stouts I've ever tried.
