Bottle (BBE 2026). Pours opaque dark brownish black with large dark brown head. Aroma is intense roasted malt, liquorice, soy sauce, Vegemite and prunes. Taste is medium sweet, light to medium bitter, light acidic and light salty. Body is oily with fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and balanced sweet and bitter with intense notes of roasted malt, liquorice, soy sauce, Vegemite, tobacco, prunes and hints of juniper. Lacks balance and depth.

Sample (thanks fonefan!). Black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is toffee, some floral and liquorice, and some mild alcohol to it. Flavour is chocolate, syrup, liquorice, alcohol and some mild toasted and coffeeish tones. Too syrupy, otherwise quite ok.

Bottle 70 cl. Pours an opaque black with a light brown head. Aroma is lightly smoked with a licorice note. Not a super rich body - it IS bottom fermented after all. Rough roastiness, quite some harsh and bitter roast. Plenty of underlying hard, English licorice (try googling Lakritol) but absolutely no trace of the plums. Malt bitter finish. 311222

Black with a lasting off-white head. Roasted aroma with liquorice, a touch of smoke and a hint of herbal hops. Sweet roasted flavour - but relatively dry for a strong Willemoes beer. Intensely roasted with liquorice, charcoal and a touch of dried fruit. Hoppy bitter finish with warming alcohol. Impressive beer.

ABV: 11.0%. Clear dark black brown colour with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, chocolate, dark malt, sweet malt, brown sugar. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, sweet malt, dark malt, brown sugar - molasses, licorice. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is warming and light alcoholic. [20221112]
