The Chimay Blue is a dark ale with a powerful aroma. Its complex flavor improves with passing time. The 75-centiliter version (since 1982) is called ''Grande Réserve'' because of its great storage potential., It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. But after its great success, it was decided to offer it permanently.

Bottle at Hops, Crewe. Pours a deep ruby with a small frothy cream head and good lacing. There’s an enticing rich aroma of raisins, fruitcake and alcohol. In the mouth, roasdt malts are the first to hit the taste ubuds. Followed closely by dried fruits, ginger and spices. Some traces of plums, chocolate and treacle as well. The finish is mellow and roasty with hints of alcohol coming through. This is excellent – and dangerously drinkable

750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9%. Chestnut to mahogany colour, large beige head. Aroma of malts, brown kandij sugar, caramel, dark dried fruits and spicy Belgian ale yeast. Pleasant flavour with the same elements as the aroma, moderate to modest bittering hops.
