We can neither confirm nor deny its existence. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout originally concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under the cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly this vintage of Black Ops is aged for months in Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon barrels. Such a beer would combine big chocolate and coffee notes with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak. Is Black Ops real? We can’t say. But we’ll think you’ll love it.

Something seems off; the bourbon overshadows the stout, which, to be honest, may not be a bad thing. The stout presents a semisweet chocolate front, but grows a severe berry streak in the middle, covering up any wanted notes of roast and anise. Finishes with oak and a shit-ton of Four Roses. Not a great BA beer.

16oz can. Dark brown pour, skin of beige head, ring. Sweet aroma, caramel, chocolate, light whiskey notes. Taste is chocolate and caramel, sweet, whiskey notes, light vanilla. Silky smooth, creamy, gentle warmth. Superb.

Undated can drunk 11/28/22. Undetermined clarity in an ebony body with a light-tan head showing moderate retention. Weird nose shows great bourbon but also weird buttercream character. I guess its just the interaction between malt and barrel, but it is strange, albeit not bad. Definitely smells like they dumped a few shots of actual four roses in here.... Whew, yeah, that's bourbon. Strong, peppery, spicy, buttery with full oak and driest of chocolate. Yet another brewery that just can't figure it out. Where is the malt? Where is the texture? Do I want a mouth full of intense bourbon and dry chocolate? No maltiness, no richness, no balance. Like drinking a dram of four roses with some stout dumped in to it.

Pint can - dark ruby, looking basically black in the glass - interestingly light, bright, and fruity for the style - bourbon is present and warming throughout - it’s full-bodied, but in the way a Belgian quad would be rather than an imperial stout - in fact, there are a lot of more Belgian characteristics present here - the bright fruitiness and moderate acid - dark fruit (date, raisin, plum) - warming finish - it’s not your typical imperial stout (especially in today’s market), but when enjoyed for what it is, it is actually quite good.

Incredibly disappointing. Black with a large foamy brown head. Doughy, woody, crappy whiskey, rough and fusel, a bit nutty and a touch of cocoa. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Fusel element grew as it warmed - my rating is probably too generous as I ended up dumping it. Such a shame, I really liked the original Black Ops and have enjoyed my share of Four Roses in the past.

750 ml. Aromas of bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, and Soft bourbon.. Flavor shows coffee, light chocolate, raisin and a soft four roses bourbon throughout. Nice body with a smooth dry finish. I was worried that this would not hold up. It’s surpassed the test of time.

16 ounce can. Opaque black pour. Frothy tan head. Roasted malt aroma has notes of dark chocolate and sweet bourbon. Easy drinking for such a heavy brew. Soft on the palate. Warming alcohol in middle. Some oakiness as well. Very good.
