This crystal clear chestnut coloured beer is crowned with a tight, fine, stable brown foam and affords aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and summer honey to entice your senses. The full-bodied taste is spicy and combines roasted malt, bitter almond, bitter chocolate and coffee flavours with a soft touch of wood and liquorice. The aftertaste is persistent with an integrated bitterness. Notes of espresso, chocolate and caramel linger on the tongue.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Round about 1992 I’d drink Kaltenberg Pils, very occasionally, when I was behind the bar at the Cross Keys, and was fed up drinking cask Stone’s or bottled White Shield. Not sure why, other than it was something different and a little exotic, maybe. I suspect if this was in the fridge then, I might have given this a tickle, and brought on the casual dependency a bit sooner. Dunno. This is equally exotic. It’s a bit tasty and out of the comfort zone. It’s evolutionary, I suppose. Fucken big boost, too...

330 ml served in abbey glass. Dark brown, beige small head. Toffee, roasted malty aroma, dried fruits. Quite bitter for Doppelbock, sweet hint, slight metallic taste. Alcohol taste is strong and warm, but acceptable. Soft carbonated, full body, creamy oily texture. Bitter aftertaste. This beer has character and is definitely different from the better known Doppelbock beers.

330ml bottle. Best before February 2016. Pours brown with a small light brown head. Aroma is dark fruits, lots of caramel, bread. Taste is caramel, raisins, malt. The 9% is very well disguised. Nice one.

Nice. Dried fruit (figs), chocolate, roast. A little too sweet but a perfect balance of bitterness. Medium body, creamy. All in all decent but I expected more complex aromas due to the high abv.

Bottle from Oase. Nose of caramel, cherry, some chocolate, oranges. Pretty orange amber color. Very fruity flavor, oranges, nectarine, caramel. A bit thin. Decent but did not live up to expectations. Punches below its weight.

Schönes malziges Bockbier. Schön malzig-süßlich, vollmundig süffig. Sehr schön rund und voll. Die 9% schmeckt man nicht heraus!! Einfach toll!

Brown/red colour with beige head. Bready smell, but not really a strong smell. Some herbal taste, roasted notes, and a good bitterness, that last long. Full-bodied. Not bad.
