Didn't expect a gusher out of a barleywine. I hope its OK! Cloudy orangey-brown color, big foaming head, heavy lacing and holds its shape. I'm somewhat surprised how restrained the nose is on this. I have to really dig to find it. There's caramel and dark alefruits, the usual on a malt heavy strong english ale. Flavor though is big and sweet for sure. Boozy flavors lead to an earthy and highly bitter finish. Interesting bit of balance here, between the big heavy malt presence fading into that strong bitterness. Figgy notes are there, maybe slightly vinous. As I keep working on the nose I think I get a little grassy hop element. This beer is sticky! Literally because it was a gusher my first pour over-flowed the glass, and now the residue on the glass is sticking and gooey! Part of what makes the nose restrained I think is that big thick head that just won't go down. Its like a barrier! I get more sticking my nose into the can! To sum up my rambling, this is a pretty good english style barleywine, and real nice to find a traditional beer on the shelves these days. But I'd have to say its not my first choice for a 95 deg Florida early evening.

16oz can from Tavour. Mahogany pour with a persistent thick tan head, lacing all the way down. Sweet malty aroma, toffee, boozy. I sense something amazing coming. I'm not wrong. Sweet malty taste, boozy, toffee, light leathery notes, tobacco. No adjuncts! Pure malty goodness. Sipping on a gorgeous spring evening. Life is good!
