Re-Introducing Jester King Wytchmaker Rye IPA
After a nine-year hiatus, we’ve brought back “Wytchmaker Rye IPA”. Originally brewed in September of 2010, Wytchmaker Rye IPA is an American-Style Rye IPA brewed with 15% malted rye in the grist. For its reincarnation, we’ve modernized the hop bill with five pounds per barrel Citra, Simcoe, and El Dorado Cryo. Mashed with TexMalt San Jacinto Heritage Malt, Weyermann malted rye, and a touch of oats. Fermented with the “Juice” strain from Imperial Yeast. Expect vibrant notes of grapefruit mimosa, Navy Grog, and rye whisky paloma. 7.1% abv.
Speaking of O.G., here's what we wrote on the back of the bottle when we first released this beer in 2010:
The culprit behind the Salem Witch Trials was not the demonic possession (which would have been kind of cool), but ergot infected rye. The rye malt and aromatic hops in this beer aren't likely to transform you into a witch, but maybe they'll inspire you to think about your own transformation - perhaps into an individual; a free thinker; someone who speaks their mind and follows their dreams. Personally, we'd go with transforming into an army of flying viking bears, but what do we know?

Aromas are resin, MJ and malt with a little bit of citrus rind. Flavors are similar to nose, bittersweet and add in some spoiled produce. Maybe some spice. Good body and just right carbonation. Modest bitter finish. Pretty good.

Keg at Man in The Moon, Stockholm. Hazy yellow, small head. Restrained aroma of guava and apples. Dryish with light to medium body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Apples and grain, guava and passionfruit. Low bitterness.

Draft at CopenRoss. Light amber pour, thin layer of off-whte head. Malty aroma, rye bread. Taste is very mellow rye notes, and not overly hopped, so it' very smooth. Really nice, earthy, nutty flavors.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a hazy, glowing gold with a finger of white foam that lingers. Big pungent tropical fruit aromas with citrus, strawberry and light peppery. Pith, pineapple and berry on the palate with a finish that leans dry. Very nice hazyboi with some bitterness to balance things out.

27 September 2022. At Jester King Brewery. Shared with the lovely Anke!
Cloudy yellow, small, white head. Expressive aroma of hard cheese, dough, dank peach, lime, mint. Taste has sweet peach, tangerine & melon; bitter grapefruit over doughy maltiness. Floral hoppy finish with pithy citrus and minty spices. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Very expressive, lovely.
