In the beer geek breakfast series – the beer that really put Mikkeller on the map, we decided to shake things up by adding a truck load of vanilla to the french press coffee trick, creating a whole new dimension to the beer that are loved by freaks and geeks worldwide. Not only that, we then placed it in bourbon barrels for 8 months for a truly unique beer experience. Aromas are sweet filled with vanilla. Palate starts with milky sweetness and offers roasted malts, chocolate and coffee.

Bottled. Black colour with a foamy brown head, that leaves some lace. Longlasting but quite minor from pouring. Aroma is vanilla, some oak, liquorice, mild dried fruits and some spiciness. Flavour is pretty much following the same pattern, but the wood and vanilla come in a bit stronger.

Sample, bit older. Black, thick, flat. Big vanilla smell. Smooth body, some good boozyness going on here. Plenty of vanilla in the taste, some nice roast giving coffee, and a good dose of whiskey. Would have been better carbed, but definitely tasty still. Not as intended, so no rating, but definitely 8+.

Taster at home courtesy of Saeglopur, big thanks. black color, very small very dark coffee colored head. smells whisky, vanilla, cookie dough, spices, light cinnamon, light hazelnuts, very nice smell, rather unique and interesting. full body, light carbonation. tastes of vanilla, some sweetness, subtle whisky, molasses, sweet spices, bit boozy. finishes sweet with notes of vanilla, molasses and some subtle whiky notes. heavy and rather sweet, overall very nice one, but would not hurt to have this another year in the cellar (and it hopefully mellows out a bit).

330 ml bottle from MBC. Black, oily body, with a tiny, tan head. Beautiful aroma of whiskey, vanilla, dark chocolate cake, cocoa, tobacco, some coffee, some toffee, some sweet spices, slight soy sauce. Tastes similar, with more booze and more tobacco and whiskey. Full, oily mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes warm, boozy, wooden, roasty, moderate sweet, witht tobacco, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, whiskey, some vanilla, some spices. Not as amazing as the Bourbon version, but still very tasty. Especially the nose is beautiful, the taste is quite boozy, while rich and complex. Great sipper! Score: 9 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16
