Taking inspiration from 19th Century recipes this is a traditional full bodied porter, brewed with a blend of dark malts, generously hopped with a hint of chocolate and a robust bitterness.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal cream head and good lacing. In the nose there are malts, chocolate and liquorice. In the mouth it is sweet and slightly watery, but the flavour more than makes up for this. Vanilla, malts and dark fruits dominate, but there are also traces of dark chocolate, and later on balsam makes an appearance. Finish is both fruity and malty. This is excellent and very drinkable.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Extremely dark red with a thick creamy head. It's traditionally porter-like with subdued roasted malts in both aroma and taste. Has a pleasant mouthfeel.
