At East End. Translucent translucent crimson with beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and small-bubble lacing. Taste is caramel malt, herbal hop balance, and some alcohol.

4oz pour at the Pittsburgh Public Market. Pours a fairly dark, deep brown with some thin, white head. Nice nose, nutty, lightly toasted bread, some lemon, a little hop pellet. Flavor was very nice as well, some hop bitterness, pine, lemon zest, crunchy cereal grains, toasted bread, very light coffee grounds. Extremely well balanced flavor. Full bodied, dry finish. A great take on a Winter beer.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a murky very dark brown color with a medium sized creamy brown head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was bitter with wood, nut and a hint of cocoa. The flavor was bitter and astringent with wood, nut and cocoa. Long finish with growing astringency. Moderately full bodied. Meh.

How ironic, the breweries that I am closest to, don’t get much attention. You take them for granted as if they will always be there. Had this on tap at the Bocktown Bar in Robinson Township Mall. Pours very dark brown and you can barely see into the dark abyss. Tan head. There is no red hue in this what so ever. Wet, slightly burned wood aroma. Flavor is rich with malltyness and hop bitterness. On the first taste it leaves quite an impression. Something akin to run off from a burnt wooden barrel. The finish is a barely endurable roasty astringent linger. It lasts and lingers for quite a while. Way to much personality for me. However, if you like big beers; IPA and impstouts, you better try this. Alittle more offensive than Nosferatu.
