Viven Smoked Porter is a fairly bitter porter beer, with a very smokey flavour. Accents of coffee and dark chocolate make for a powerful aroma in your glass.

Bottle - black pour with a thick tan head/lacing - strong chocolate and roast hit the nose first, followed by a fairly hearty campfire smokiness - initially smells fairly sweet, but drier, earthy maltiness and an almost savory/salty note counter this - full but soft carbonation in the mouth - sweet chocolate, coffee with cream and sugar - moderate roast, mild acidity, and light smoke late, along with some earthy/mushroomy malt and a slight note od whiskey -some alcohol warmth on the tail end makes me find it slightly less enjoyable - would love to see a 5% rendition.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, firm, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Intense smoky aroma, hints of clammy ashes, dark malty background with a touch of blueberries. Taste is dry, minimally tart, dark malty, grassy hoppy, a smoky touch; subtle malt sweetness in the finish with hints of blueberries; relatively lively carbonation.

Bottled, BB 07/01/15, large sample. Dakr brown color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, some smoke, slight spicy, bacon, chocolate, slight earthy hops. Soft bitter taste, again some smoked notes. Bitterness carries the relative light body. Slight hint of alcohol in the finish. Until I opened the bottle and openen Ratebeer, I didnt know it was a smoked porter at first. So quite surprised. But it turns out pretty good. Great balance between smoke and chocolatey porter.

Draught at the Blue Cat. Deep black with a tall tanhead. Huge aroma of chocolate, coffee, umami galore, something like oysters, a bit of soy. Big, thick flavor, very malty and lots of salty umami, a bit smoky. Chocolate too. Wow, this is thick and rich. Quite sweet, with nice roast. Huge. Pretty good, but couldnβt take a lot of it.

How: Draught.
Where: De Republiek, Bruggs.
Appearance: Black colour with a brown head.
Aroma: Liquorice, roasted coffee, malt.
Body: Nice body with a good carbonation.
Flavour: Liquorices, a bit of smoke, roasted malt, roasted coffee.
Comment: A nice porter. Not sure if it a smoked, doesnβt feel smokey enough for it. Iβll treat it and enjoy it as a porter.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice three centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of smoke, soy sauce, peat, tons of roasted malt, oak and bunches of vanilla pods. Medium-bodied; Dense smoked peat flavour with some beef, mushrooms, vanilla, oak, scotch and tar in here as well - strong flavour throughout - even on the finish. Aftertaste is quite complex with a good smoked note, some hits of the meaty and soy sauce flavours and a caramel sweetness that lasts, along with some spices. Overall, a nice smoked beer with tons of flavours, some of them really good and some of them not - but they generally work well! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from De HopDuvel in Gent, Belgium on 16-August-2013 for β¬1,45 sampled across the border here in my hotel room in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg on 18-August-2013.
