Viven Smoked Porter is a fairly bitter porter beer, with a very smokey flavour. Accents of coffee and dark chocolate make for a powerful aroma in your glass.

33 cl bottle in de stille genieter ( mechelen ) a almost black beer ( when you have a thin layer, it still shines trough a bit , so realy dark brown actualy) with nice, somewhat faster fading foam. not a big smell on this one. a little more sour than i’m used to ( this aint sour, but has a little hint to it ) . more wattery than i’m used to , and also weaker taste ( its onley 7 % ) but nothing else realy special about this one. just a basic stout/porter like you have dozens. the aftertaste is better, like you’ve drank a heavier stout.. the price on this one is realy making up for it ( less than 3 euro’s at a bar??? ) wich makes it in the competing league between basics like lager and stuff, this one deffinatley wins ! i was getting tired of this one very quickley , but hey, i might have started with the ’to special’ stouts ...

330ml bottle. Pours an extremely dark brown with a large head. Aroma is fruity, dry roast malt with a little smoke. Taste is watery dry roast to start with a roasty, smoky finish. Some dark fruits, also.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu
Aroma is a bit floury with peat, some smoke and licorice. Flavour is ashy and dry with some peat and licorice. Not your typical porter, too much ash and peat for me here.

Deep brown body, close to opaque. Frothy beige head. Malty aroma with notes of smoke. Coffee, charred wood, roasted malts, dark chocolate. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and fizzy carbonation. Taste of wood, ash, smoke, licorice, bitter coffee. The smoke is light enough not to overpower the other flavors. Enough bitterness to balance the sweet malts. Almost. By the end of the first 12 oz., I had had enough sweet, ashy malts. But the first 12 oz. was very good.

As Viven Smoked Porter. Dark brown body. Aroma is quite smoky, smells like weyermann, with lightly fudgey choc notes. Quite smoky up front on the palate, w choc accents and light biscuity notes. The alcohol becomes apparent very late. Finish is a little more watery than I’d like, as if those embers are being soaked. But ogherwise a good smoked porter from a surprising source.

Opaque dark brown beer. Thick tan head. Dry palate, hard roasted malt - smoky and burned with the expected accompanying acridness! A little fruit under there somewhere! Bone dry finish. Oh dear! About as much fun as a slice of toast burned black. Pretty awful from this otherwise good brewer.

330 ml bottle at Brugs Beertjes. Pours black like a stout, with medium tan head. Smoky coffee aromas. Similar flavors tending towards espresso. Nice bitter finish. A very good beer
