pours a dark brown but far from black , light brown smooth head.
aroma of mushrooms, seriously barrel (over aged) stout, glue, nails, wood.. did the barrel dissolve in the beer? - alc. is noticeable in and of itself, also a decent dose of roasted malts. overall a pretty complex and in fact interesting sipper i think. They migh'tve overdone the barrel aging though.
flavor is roasted malty, finer notes of vanilla and oak, perhaps a tiny bit of coffee in the best way it could present itself, licorice, salty licorice, charred wood. pretty impressive barrel aging flavor - it has taken lots of flavor from wood, but unlike the aroma it is not over the top. flavor is really good. very mellow and balanced but still sharp.

Bottle from BiervanEijk, Steenwijk. Aroma is soft peat, oak, roasted malt, whiskey, coffee, touch of chili, mocha, chocolate, some bourbon. Flavour is medium sweet with a mild bitterness, moderate booze and chili burn in the finish. Full body. Nice chili and whiskey.

Bottle. Black with no head. Chocolate, earthy, soft chillies, a bit of vanilla and coffee and a soft earthy smokiness in the finish. Dried fruits, dates, maple syrup, molasses. Solid sweet and medium bitter. Over medium bodied with medium chili heat in the finish. Complex and balanced, very nice beer, just a bit too low on carbonation.
