La Salamandre, the original BFM, wheat beer, fresh and spicy. Brewed with wheat- and barley malt, La Salamandre is a beer with a bloomy and tangy bouquet. On the palate, the subtle hints of yeast render the beer creamy with a tad o’ tartness, which is typical for wheat beers. The finish is hardly bitter, but racy, with a taste of bitter orange zest and discrete hops.

Bottle, 33cl. A decent, white head forms over an unclear, pale golden body. The aroma is lighlty spiced, with a nice fruityness, some pale malts and a little caramel touch. The flavor has some spices up front, it’s quite fruity, and with a backdrop of lightly caramel-ish malts. Medim body, soft and pleasant carbonation. A decent bitterness shows up towards the end. An easy drinkable and tasteful beer. 131004

Bottle from Embrouille - thank you so much for the trade! A gusher. Opens with a deafening plop! and pours cloudy pale yellow with abundand airy but stable white head. Sweetish aroma of yeast and banana with clear sourish notes - not of citrus, possibly of grain. Bitter, hoppy amd grassy flavour, with pronounced notes of citrus and a touch of spices - coriander?. Hops and lemon peel in the finish. I cannot quite taste the honey promised on the label, but it is not a problem as such. OK but a trifle too sourish (and no, it is not off, I have just checked the BBD.)

Bottle at home. Is slightly cloudy and yellowish, with a small, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is dominated by Belgian yeast, citrus, nutmeg and hay. The taste is more sweet with notes of banana and wheat, and appears more like a light hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth, and has a light bitterness. An absolute good wheat beer, but more like a typical German wheat beer than a Belgian wit.

Rating from 2009. Ganz wenig herb. --> Sehr interessantes Witbier – aromenreich und nicht platt. Sehr zu empfehlen! --> 12,12,12,13,12,12 - 12,15
