Once every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. The ale had smoky flavor, and most of it was spiced with juniper. This is our take on this traditional style.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark reddish brown colour with a light beige head. Smoked meat in the aroma along with raisins, rye bread and heather. The flavour is similar with the addition of grass and leather. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. Malty and smokey. Nice!

On tap at the source. A lightly foggy reddish brown beer with a small off-white head. Some lacing. The aroma has smoked ham, lightly roasted malts, some dried fruits, a touch of alcohol and a chemical smoke hint. It's medium to full-bodied, semi-dry and softly carbonated, with a very light bitterness. Smoked ham, dried apricots, prunes and figs, a mellow roasted touch and some chemical smoke hints in the flavor. Long finish. Not really sure which edition I prefer, probably the original one, with this one as number two. 200620

Norwegian wood smoked beer ... from Norway. Inspired by the song? The movie? The country? ;-)
