Once every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. The ale had smoky flavor, and most of it was spiced with juniper. This is our take on this traditional style.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Moderately hazy reddish brown colour, minimal and shortlived head. Fairly nice aroma of smoked malts, caramel, brown bread and juniper branches. Flavour of smoked malts and juniper, not very sweet.

Frothy white fair mostly diminishing head. Moderate malty and light hoppy aroma. Some smoked notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.

Bottle@Mathews tasting. Pours clear chestnut with thin white head. Aroma is intense peated malt with notes of bacon, smoked ham, campsite smoke honeydew melon and no juniper. Taste is medium to very sweet and faint bitter. Body is watery with soft carbonation. Finish is long and intense with peated malt, bacon, smoked ham, campfire smoke, melon, raisins and ripe green pears. Peated but in this balanced and a nice dry smokey aroma

Bottle @ Torben Mathews tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are smoke, wood, caramel, malt, hops and has a nice smoky finish.

Bottle 330ml @ gunnfryd
Pours clear amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, smoke, floral and juniper. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long smokey, malty, floral and juniper finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

KYGGK 130621. Red amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is smoked, yeast, roasted malt.n Flavor is smoked, roasted malt, yeast,alcohol, dried fruit. Nice beer.

0, 33 flaske fra VP nettbutikk, hjemme: klar rødlig kobber med fint skum som varer til bunns i mitt Torpah-glass. Behagelig duft hvor røykmalten holder seg i bakgrunnen til fordel for lyng, barskog og honning. Røykmalten er mer fremtredende i smaken, dog uten at det blir ubalansert - den komplementerer inntrykkene av lyng, lynghonning, rosiner og fuktig barskog. Røykmalten blir tydeligst i ettersmaken. Jeg er ingen røykøl-entusiast, men denne tåler jeg fint et gjensyn med. Et øl med personlighet.

Tried this one together with the kveik version The kveik version had some more fruity notes. This one was off course a bit more “clean” Still a good beer. Not that different Clear deep golden with a decent head Good intensity in the aroma Balanced sweetness and an ok duration Smoked malt, ham, juniper and a solid malty backbone [Bottle from Vinmonopolet Oslo City in Oslo, Norway]
