Despite Simplex being an ale, it has all the characteristics of an old-styled pils. It is a blond, unfiltered, unpasteurized, hoppy and bitter beer that remains low in alcohol. Resulting in a straw blonde, highly drinkable beer with plenty of flavor and character.

Taste: Refreshing, light and with a firm bitterness

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Hazy golden body with sediment flecks beneath a medium white head. Low carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of sea salt, grass, biscuit and coriander. Flavour of papery malt, lemon, steel and a slightly unpleasant, sour finish. Thin body with a watery, frothy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Sharp and not the easiest to drink. I’m surprised this has such high ratings - to me it feels raw and unfinished.

Keg at Moeder Lambic - Brussels. Pours hazy yellow with a frothy, white head. In the nose, nice crisp biscuits abound, along with husky grains and grass. Lightly sweet, with grassy bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Strong grassy bitterness in the finish, with more husky grains, touches of hay. Pretty refreshing. Not bad overall.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, pale orangey, golden colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, fruity hoppy and malty aroma, notes of apricot, hints of peach, a spicy yeasty touch, husky overtones. Taste is bitter hoppy, slightly spicy yeasty, fruity and minimally husky, slightly diluted hints of apricot and mirabelle. Refreshing, light and minimally watery, but quite flavourful and nicely dirty.

T: malty, quite bitter on the palate, bit peppery, bread, light fruity, bit citrus, grassy, very nice balanced, refreshing, medium body and carbonation, especially I like the decent long lasting harmonic bitterness, 0,33l bottle from Carrefour market @ Rue des Champs, Brussels.
