This version of our beloved imperial stout took a glorious 10-month stay-cation in sherry barrels before being racked out onto massive amounts of Ugandan vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, Deglet Noor dates, and walnuts. The finished beverage is delightfully viscous and drinks like the best date shake sweet money can buy.

22oz bottle. Pours very dark brown with minimal beige head. Aroma has cinnamon, vanilla, dates, maybe some sherry. Flavour has dry, oxidized sherry barrel, lots of dates, some vanilla and cinnamon that complements the profile well. Excellent, very complex and well-constructed.

Dark brown. Just a thin head. There's a decent chocolatey note to the aroma, some alcohol, a touch of date, cinnamon. On the palate, it's got some dates, chocolate, and then there's a bit of sherry barrel that really kicks into the finish. A hit of alcohol comes into the finish, along with cinnamon. It's not the richest but still has a bit of cocoa note. But it is interesting how the sherry barrel lends complexity but not the richness of a bourbon...sort of the opposite of how a sherry barrel influences scotch.

22oz (thx, Brian S.!) @ Salesforce. Appearance: almost black with a beige head. Aroma: cinnamon, some chocolate, dates, vanilla. Taste: nice body, quite a lot of cinnamon and dates which are nicely integrated with chocolate. Noticeable sherry-related oxidization notes in the finish. A lot is going on here. Overall: nice multilayered complex product. Very nice.

22 oz. bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of intense sherry barrels, followed by light cinnamon, a touch of dates, and some dark sugars. Flavour is quite rich, with big sherry barrels, lots of sweet dates, vanilla, and a touch of cinnamon. Cohesive with all the disparate elements working together, while the sherry is still dominant. Excellent as always, but doesn't reach the heights of many MT BA beers.

Bomber at share. Near black pour with a thin, sturdy beige head. Full aroma of sweet chocolaty malts, vanilla, molasses and sherry. taste brings subtle nutty flavors to the creamy, smooth liquid dessert of a beer with a slow rising warmth. Creamy and decadent.

No head; pours viscously over orange-rimmed brown-black beer. Chocolate, fusels, alcohol, liquorice, jap, charcoal. Chocolate, marzipan, chocolate pastry; fusels again. Full bodied, furious alcoholheat. Viscous. As with IBU overdoses - one can get too far. No doubt many will love this.

650ml bottle. Heavy, sweet and slightly syrupy with some sherry, vanilla, nutty notes, ripe dates and figs, hints of cinnamon. Quite complex and sweet. --- Beer merged from original tick of Modem Tones - Date Shake Edition on 09 Feb 2020 at 15:05 - Score: 8
