The Phase Three crew consistently crushes it, earning loyal fans as well as enthusiastic shout-outs from Hop Culture and Vine Pair, among others. So, it’s no surprise that today’s P3 Doppelbock is another hit! The Chicago-area brewers crafted this German-style dark brew with rich, toasty malts, for a wintery refresher that flows with subtly sweet caramel and cocoa nuances. Each smooth sip dishes up of bread and toffee, with a whisper of cola before finishing clean.

On tap at Phase Three - Lake Zurich, pours a clear deep dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted nuts, and a hint of caramel. Flavour is very malty and clean, with lots of bready malt, toasted dry caramel, and gentle nuttiness. Slightly sweet for the style, but there's a nice bitterness to balance. Totally up there with some of the best German doppelbocks. Do this side-by-side with Celebrator and tell me I'm wrong. Excellent.

16 ounce can from Tavour. Mahogany brown color. Large, frothy tan head. Nice lacing. Dark roasted malt aroma hints at chocolate and nuts. Flavor follows nose. Sweet and roasty. Notes of caramel, chocolate and dark dried fruit. Incredibly smooth. Wonderfully complex. Outstanding.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour with a thin creamy beige head. Aroma is malty, sweet, molasses, raisins. Taste adds some woody notes, malty, dry, sweet, pit fruit....slightest hit of chocolate. There's a sharp bitterness at the finish, which sticks to the palate. Full bodied. Unsure about that finish though...
