This was our first in house Munichwine brew which has been aging in Weller and Blanton’s bourbon barrels for 14 months. Ever since we tried some of @privatepressbrewing’s initial batches of Munichwine we’ve been eagerly awaiting the day to release our own version of this divine liquid. You can expect all of the toffee, cherry cordial, almond liqueur and maple drizzle that we are starting to expect from a beer with such a high percentage of toasty Munich barley malt.
Lil’ tidbit: This batch was already so amazing at 6 months old that we blended a single barrel of it into our recent-ish Barleywine release Works and Days; so you might recognize it from some of that profile.

375ml bottle pours out dark cola brown topped with a small head. Nose is nice rich malts caramel toffee pitfruit bourbon barrel. Taste is more of the nice sweet rich malts bourbon barrel. Another great big barley wine.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward with loads of toasted bread, caramel, toffee and lighter notes of nuts, chocolate and hints of roast. Medium light alcohol notes with light bourbon and faint oak notes. Pours dark brown with a small, thin, tan head that recedes quickly to the edges and disappears. No lacing and very long legs. Flavor is very sweet with lots of caramel and toffee notes. Quite a bit of toasted bread and burnt sugar with lighter notes of raisins and prunes. Light notes of chocolate and nuts with hints of roast. Moderately strong bitterness and moderate alcohol notes. Medium light bourbon notes and hints of oak. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright munichwine but I find this one overly sweet and under attenuated. Good malt character, just too sweet. Bourbon notes are nice and well balanced. Alcohol is not well hidden. Perhaps a bit thin.
