When the F’n New Guy makes a mistake that turns into a happy accident, we name the beer after him. The FNG is a classic and unique Belgian Abbey Ale that bridges the stylistic gap between a Dubbel and a Tripel. Dark Candi Syrup and abbey yeast work together harmoniously to deliver a delicious balance of toffee and caramel, with mild spice notes of clove and pepper in a dry clean finish.

Can, from the Beermiscuous, Chicago, IL (Jan 2026). Pours cloudy reddish brown with a foamy beige head, spicy caramel malt aroma, high carbonation, bitterish spicy caramel taste, dried fruits flavor, grassy hops, alcohol undertones. thin body, long finish. Not bad, a bit boozy.

Pint can - medium amber, lightly hazy, moderate lace - nose of crackery malt, fruity esters, light peppery spice - flavor is medium dry and heavy on the clove and banana, presenting more like a dunkelweizen than a dubbel - lightly peppery on the tail end, finish with honey and bread - it’s alright - too much effing banana.

Bottle. Clear deep amber light toasted Belgian pitted fruit aromas and flavors. Some notes of Vienna/Munich malts and a well attenuated smooth palette. Pleasant and tasty

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Mahogany pour, thin film of beige head. Yeasty aroma, tannins, tobacco, raisins, prunes. Taste brings a tinge of sweetness, Belgian yeast flavors, pit fruit, light tingle at the back. Pretty damn authentic.

On tap at Monkless, pours a hazy bright amber mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is somewhat estery, with bubblegum, toffee and bready caramel. Flavour is boozy and estery, with little integration or complexity; there's toffee, alcohol, floral and candi sugar. Too estery and boozy; they haven't controlled the yeast properly. Needs work.

Pour is a dark mahogany brown with a smallish white head. Aroma is brown sugar, tootsie rolls and treacle. Flavor is brown candi sugar with molasses and plumbs. This was a well made dubbel. Only knock is that it's a bit sweet but it's pretty much spot on and delicious.
