For the third beer in our DDH West Coast IPA series, we’ve used Citra YCH 702 Trial again after how much we loved it in Pillars, paired alongside Nelson Sauvin & Motueka.
Bright notes of Ruby Grapefruit and Orange peel intermingle with tart Gooseberry and Lime, as the defining characteristics of Nelson Sauvin meet Citra in this NZ/USA hop profile. The finish is long with a pleasant bitterness, with aromatic and herbal flavours finishing with a heady, resinous Pine quality.

Can from Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant. Mostly clear golden body with a few tiny particles floating beneath a white head that holds well. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blood orange and pine. Flavour of nettles, white grape and grapefruit. Medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. A proper westie - bitingly bitter.

Can at home, from Craft Beer Central.ie, 04/05/24. Almost clear golden orange with a decent lasting just off white head. Nose is orange zest, grass, melon, light pine needle, floral tones. Taste comprises grass, bitter orange, grapefruit, pine needle, citric tinged straw, light caramel malt base. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy come grassy hop bitterness. Tidy WC affair with a good bitter edge.

Can. Pretty much a clear gold beer, such a collectors item these days, good bubbly pale cream colour head. Smooth malts, a light and very mild creamy sweetness. Hops deliver bright and resinous orange, tangerine and mandarin hops. Struggling to pick up the Kiwi hops in this very clean IPA. Maybe a touch of Motueka lime. Nelson is just an also ran here. Light smooth finish leaves a nibbly hop spice. Good stuff for. West Coast IPA, no caramel malts, no marmalade hops. Better than yer average West Coast dipa then.
