22.03.2020 - 0.33l bottle from qbeer, bb 30.10.2020. pours a hazy orange with a steady dense head. sour aroma of funk, green apples, citrus, orange zest, mustard. not much vinegar though. flavour of pineapple, mustard, bread, herbs, wood. some funk as well. interesting.

‘Birch saison’, so I assume a beer with birch juice added to it, by this Estonian craft brewer, tasted from tap at 4th Gentse Bierquiz in Ghent. Pale eggshell-white, mousy, bit irregular and opening but edge-retaining head, misty peachy robe with a ‘dirty’ orange-brown tinge. Aroma of ripe peach, old orange peel, sweaty socks, sugared bread, halfripe banana, plum peel and weird herbal qualities from the birch reminiscent of herb cheese, mustard seed and even Belgian ‘pickles’ but without the vinegar component. Very fruity, estery onset, peach, red apple and ripe pineapple impressions, fizzy and stinging carbonation; supple bready malt body, soggy cookies, with that dry mustard seed aspect strongly uprising retronasally – no doubt representing the ‘birch’ aspect, though I cannot see how precisely; minerally and fruity aspects linger along with this characteristic herbalness, while hop bitterness remains very soft. Very ‘Belgian’ in style with an interesting herbal-spicy aspect to it provided by the birch in an unusual, but not unpleasant way, but too sweet and not hoppy enough for a saison; could do with a lot more leafy, drying hoppiness in the finish, I’m left wondering what the effect would be then.

17 August 2019. At Gents Bierfestival X. Cheers to Anke, Kevin & the crew! Clear dark golden, lasting, very thin, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of mango, pineapple, mandarin peel, kiwi, gooseberry, straw. Taste is medium fruity sweet & sour, balancing mango & pineapple with plum & green apple, bitter touches of spices, yeast, spruce. Dryish, floral hoppy finish, lingering orange, spices & yeast. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Bit too spicy for me even if the birch character is there.

Clear orange beer, small creamy dense off-white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sourish, very herbal, fruity, some tropical fruits, bit malty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity, citrus, some salami, malty, grains, hay, cow fodder. Aftertaste: more fruity, some pears, bit funky, weird bitterness.

Smell of birch leaves, hay, some yeast. Hazy straw colour, high white head. Strong aroma of birch leaves, a faint of earth, hay and other saison-y flavours in the background. Bitter. Wild carbon.

Flaska från matbutik i Finland. Något disig, mörkare orange med högt smutsvitt skum. Hög kolsyra. Jäst, honung, björk och björksav. Relativt hög sötma och fyllighet för en saison. Drickvänligt, gott till maten.

Draught at 100 ollu koht: pours gold with a white head. Aroma is sweaty, funky, with very specific fruity hints. Taste is sort of sour, funky, grassy, a tad herbal. i think this is way better than other other people.
