You don’t see too many sherry BA beers in Japan.

Two Rabbits Old Boy
Sherry BA Barleywine 12%

Nice amber ruby orange with virtually no foam but a big rich malty aroma with sweet oaky sherry notes. Full bodied with lots of maltiness, boozy sherry, sweet molasses and a pleasing warmth in your stomach. Nice on this fairly cool night.

orange, cherries, sherries. Semi sweet, boozy, sherry. But dries quickly. Very dry finish. But palate isn’t that great not too complex but not bad. Ok

Bottle from Tokyo. Pours a reddish amber hue with a small white head after a bit. A big nose, very vinous, big sherry barrels. Sweetness underneath big tart funky vinous barrels, some light nice heat. Big funk, sweeter malts. Balanced. Damn good. Lake Biwa gives more bounty.

330mL bottle, pours a clear dark amber / mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma is loaded with potent sherry barrel notes, some toasted chestnuts, and bready caramel. Flavour is malty and nutty, again with that toasted chestnut character, bready caramel, toffee, and of course the big sherry barrel character. Damn, this is impressive. Very malty, but not that sweet -- the sugars have largely been attenuated out -- and the barrel character is very complementary. Excellent.

Tap at Two Rabbits. A sherry barrel aged barley wine. Nose is sherry, oak, bretty funk, caramel, vanilla. Hazy brown with a pretty, fine, thick head. Bitter oak hits first, then sherry, caramel, vanilla, and bretty. A very complex and fascinating beer.
