A new recipe from our branch brewery in the Altstadt of Vienna, Burnaby, Viennaraad is made with a secret malt that probably no other BC brewery has ever heard of. (Okay, it’s called Vienna malt. I’m terrible with secrets).
Viennaraad has a nice pretzel crust maltiness, but is crisp and clean enough for a session.

100mL pour at brewery. Pours clear gold with white head. Aroma has straw and sweetish malts. Flavour has biscuit malts, straw, crust; gentle hoppy bite on the finish. Nice.

473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy copper amber with a medium, foamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Aroma of toasted bready malt, caramel and floral hops. Sweet flavour of toasted bready malt, caramel, honey, red apple and spicy hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Malt forward and tasty.

Poured from the tap. Clear amber gold with small white head. Bread crust, clean and simple, enjoyable.

Can at Black Christmas March 2022
Amber colour. The aroma is a bit bready, moderate caramel flavour, some acidity, for a semi-dark lager it's pleasant.

On tap at Dageraad, pours a clear dark amber with a large beige head. Nose brings out sturdy bready malt, bready crust, and a hint of fruitiness. Flavour is bold for the style, with crusty bread, toasted bready malt and a hint of dry caramel. Robust and well-rounded. Not sure what Oakes is tasting here. This is solid enough.

Hazy amber with a thick head. I wasn't expecting such murkiness. It does not look good. Yeasty aroma and taste. Okay fuck, boys, this isn't a finished product is it? End of keg? Some caramel notes, nothing too crazy, but the depth and richness of most other Dageraad lagers - including the one they released with S&O just last week - is awol on this one. Just a yeasty mess. ¿Que pas?
