Taking 120 seconds to settle, Social Club is a smooth and creamy dry Irish stout, which pours black with a tight white head.

Its eleven different malts are blended harmoniously, imparting subtle aromas of dried fruits, dates and chocolate. With a velvet like mouthfeel, pacific jade and fuggles hops add a sublime bitter finish.

Why am I always finding Round Corner up north but rarely in Leicestershire outside of their brewpub? Keg draught at the Rook & Gaskill, York. Pours very - uncomfortably - dark brown. Opaque with a massive khaki/tan head. Aroma of burned black malt, strong espresso and milky chocolate. Tastes fairly sweet, I was expecting more bitterness and to be fair there is some mid-sip, but it's got a balance tending toward sweet. Light notes of molasses and salted caramel in the finish. Medium body, carbonation on the heavy side. An incredible sessional stout.

Half-pint, draught at Euston Tap, shared with Finn. Crocheted lacing from a decent fawn-coloured head, deep black body. Moderate smell of toasted malts, slightly roasted. Malt-forward taste of bread and grainy chocolate, Roasted dark malty end, rather sweet. Pretty nice overall. (London, 16.03.2024).
