In 1913 the brewing of strong stout beers was started in Tartu. Stout was the beer preferred by the Russian imperial court. We regenerated the original recipe in cooperation with our friends from AF Brew from St. Petersburg. Imperial Double Extra Stout is rich and bold, yet well-balanced. Classic malt and hops were used, just like a century ago.

Mega duzo kawy, kakao, duzo palonosci, duzo ciala, nieco goryczki, slodki z wytrawniejszymi posmakami, palonosc slodycz kontruje. Alko schowane sups. Na minus lekko kwaskowate. Mega dla zwolennikow rownowagi i starej szkoly w dobrym i nowoczesnym wydaniu.

Zwart bier met bruine schuimkraag die snel wegzakt. Smaak is licht bitter en zoet met iets van chocolade, mokka wat karamel en wat rook. Heel fijn bier voor mij.

Bottle picked up from Beer Republic, Breda, Netherlands, consumed at home, Attenkirchen, Sunday 17th May 2020 still on Covid-19 lockdown. For tea we had Tray Bake Chicken, Plums and Shallots listening to Cinerama - Pours black with a light tan head. Thick in the mouth, smooth, roasty, warming a nice gentle booziness, black treacle, this is lovely, really lovely.

Last one of the day Smell-weak malt, roast, cofee. Foam-medium thick to thick, roast, malt, weak coffee bitterness. Head is small, dark brown color. Appearance - brewer bottle cap, the label is somewhat interesting but no bonus for it. Color is black, no carbonation. From - snifter Taste - malt, roast, dark chocolate and some coffee, the alcohol creeps well after all this. Not bad, but somehow nothing special as well.

33 cl bottle @ NISBWG ’20. Batch #16, BBE 16.01.2019 Aroma has sweet licorice notes, hayish tones and some baking stuff. Flavour has hayish tones, strong grainy notes, licorice and some toffee. The strong graininess remind me of St. Bernardus Abt 12. Good stuff anyway.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 16 - BB 16.01.2019, from Sip Tartu, 20180404) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, soy sauce and salty liquorice. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, ash, dark chocolate, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A decent imperial stout. Too much soy sauce but very good finish.
