Can on the eurostar to Bruxelles for Rich's 50th. A light hazed amber brown coloured pour with a fine loose beige head. Aroma is semi sweet. Nutty toffee, some alcohol, raisin. Flavour is composed of semi sweet chewy toffee, cakey malts, dried fruits, spicy alcohol. Palate is chewy sweet, rounded, moderate carbonation.

Quite spicy. Lots of maltiness. Fruit. Ginger. Fruit cake. Not so boozy.

440ml can - Pours a hazy dark brown colour with a good sized foamy beige head. The aroma is malted loaf, dark malts, caramel, and sweet dried fruits. A sweetish malty and fruity taste, malted fruit loaf, caramel, burnt brown sugars, dried fruit, caramel, and alcohol flavours with a boozy warming alcohol finish.

Can on the Eurostar from St Pancras to Bruxelles Midi, picked up from Siren online, 09/02/24. Chestnut brown with a beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is dried fruit rinds, brown bread, cocoa powder, toffee melt, dark malts. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, spice, brown bread, dates, toffee, sultanas, kiss of booze. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a lick of booze. Not bad ... has an old skool BW vibe about it and sips easy but perhaps lacks some depth to the flavours for a double digit device!

440ml can. Clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, caramel, raisins. Taste is sweet, dried fruits, raisin, caramel, then the hops come through and it turns bitter, which seems really odd for a barley wine. Not bad but it's hard not to compare to Maiden, in which it pales.

1/3 pint, draught at Sirens taproom. Clear dark brownish body, almost naked surface, rings of lace down the glass. Sweet aromas of raisin and caramel malts. The taste character is also candy sweet; dried fruits, almond, and caramel. Sweet ending slightly offset by a roasted twist. Noticeable alcohol to it. Okay sipper, however, one-third was enough. (Finchampstead, 01.10.2023).

Ultramørkerød. Filmskum med litt farge. Aroma av sukkertøy & alkohol. Smaken mandler & nøtter. Tørr, lett alkoholisk avslutning. Forbausende lett-drikkelig.
