This dangerously drinkable Vietnamese coffee stout starts with an assertive roasty bitterness from the dark malts which quickly gives way to a smooth rich dark chocolate and hazelnut finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol 19/11/2022. Near black in colour, with a thin, beige, head. A hint of leafy hop, deep coffee bean character, some plain chocolate, gently toasted malts, leading to a toasty finish. Excellent.

On cask at Port Street Beer House, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very chocolatey, with gentle coffee and dusty dry cocoa. Flavour is dry and coffee-dominated upfront, with a dusty dry cocoa powder finish. Medium-bodied, with a chocolatey finish. Solid.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal cream head. Coffee plus oats in the aroma. In the mouth there is so much coffee that it’s difficult to make out anything else at first. Gradually however, you become aware of an underlying sweetness, plus liquorice, bitter dark chocolate and hints of porridge. The coffee outlasts them all however, to dominate the finish. This is wonderful !
