Electric Mud, Beavertown’s first Nitro Stout tastes like it sounds, and then some. Smooth, soft, fuzzy, super easy drinking and refreshingly bitter. Don’t drink this from the can. Grab a nice big glass, crack the can and then turn it completely upside down into the glass. Don’t be shy, you need to wake those sleepy Nitro bubbles up for the full effect.

Third, tap, sample tray at Beavertown Taproom and Brewery. Creamy fawn-coloured head leaving clingy lacing down the glass, very dark brown body. Roasted malty smell of dark bread, mid-sweet. Dark malt-driven taste of chocolate, bread, and a backdrop of dried fruit. Short, roasted malty end. Easy going stout version. (Tottenham Hale, London 06.11.2022).

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Fair Deal. Pours clear brown with a small, creamy khaki head. Lightly sweet, notes of toasted brown bread, earth, leaves, vague cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. OK balance to finish butba bit bland, more brown bread, very subtle toasted malts, nips of raisins. Tastes and feels a bit like a very average cask stout that’s been on the line a couple days. The condition is not great. It’s wild that Beavertown, a once great brewery, can put out something so bland and out of shape.
